of Beachmont

Built by 3,000 workers in just 62 days, the Suffolk Downs race track emerged as a premier thoroughbred horse racing facility with its one-mile dirt oval track and later additions.
It quickly gained recognition for showcasing some of the most famous names in thoroughbred racing, including Seabiscuit, Whirlaway, John Henry, Cigar and Skip Away.

While historically known for horse racing, Suffolk Downs was also a concert venue. It has hosted a number of historic shows, most notably The Beatles in 1966. Other shows throughout the years included The Jackson 5, Radiohead, and Elvis Costello.

HYM and its investors purchased Suffolk Downs after decades of financial challenges and declining interest in horse racing. The redevelopment aimed to transform Suffolk Downs into a vibrant and modern multi-use hub while paying respects to its rich and historic legacy.
